Maropeng at the cradle of humankind, just outside Johannesburg, is an interpretive centre dedicated to the rich paleontological heritage of the area. The centre consists of an entrance Tumulis, underground lake, leading to a subterranean exhibition space. Designed as a primordial burial mound from the entrance face, the building reveals itself as a 21st century edifice at the point of exit.
