The re-development of the 10ha old town centre to provide 30.000m² retail, 10.000m² commercial, 10.000m² magistrate’s court and 10.000m² police station.
The vision for the site was focused on the creation of a vibrant, well-integrated mixed-use precinct including retail, offices, and public service buildings, to complement the existing healthcare and educational components already present on the site.
DITIRO HOUSE OFFICE BUILDING
Ditiro House, an office building designed as part of the Tlhabane Mixed Use precinct, has been designed to achieve a 4star green rating to respond to the climatic needs of the site.
The building’s geometric form was inspired by the massive blocks of Rustenburg granite quarried in the nearby hills. The facades have small windows to help manage the heat and harsh light characteristic of the climate in the Northwest and have also been positioned to frame views around the building. The articulated appearance of the facade is most noticeable when approached from the boulevard.
The building facade includes a patterned floating metal screen, which we call the veil, inspired by local beaded garments, a contemporary interpretation of local traditions and designs. The construction prioritised the use of local materials and has created opportunities.
